England Bowling Consultant Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's last Test match for the Kiwis was against England in the final month of 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is still working through the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The former New Zealand seamer is only likely to be present for the opening match due to his participation in the ILT20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.
Southee, 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after taking 391 wickets in 107 Test matches for New Zealand.
Commenting as the English squad for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, he stated of his participation: "We're still working through the situation at the present time.
"We will determine what happens over the next little while."
English bowling legend Stuart Broad had declared the Australian team as their "weakest squad since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which begins on November 21.
"In my view there's at any time a poor Aussie side," he remarked.
"The team's attention is firmly on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [the English] team that's heading out to Australia is brilliant.
"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
However, before England travel to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
